‘Toscana’ (2022) was directed by Mehdi Avaz, a Danish filmmaker known for character-driven dramas like ‘While We Live’ and ‘Kollision’: the movie follows grumpy Danish cook Theo, played by stand-up comedian Anders “The Duck” Matthesen, as he ventures from Denmark to Tuscany following the death of his father. Theo needs cash for his new restaurant back home, and cash he could get from the sale of the castle owned by his longtime estranged father, in Italy… In ‘Toscana’, Danish actor-comedian Anders “The Duck” Matthesen trades his usual sharp humour for quiet introspection: He plays a brilliant but emotionally distant chef who returns to Italy to sell his late father’s estate — and unexpectedly finds renewal through love, food, and rediscovery. Beautifully shot among Tuscan vineyards, the film blends Danish restraint with Mediterranean warmth. Though predictable at times, Matthesen delivers a sincere and grounded performance that makes ‘Toscana’ a gentle, heartfelt story about second chances and the courage to slow down.
