Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin is expected in Stockholm today for a series of talks with her Swedish counterpart, Ulf Kristersson. As a note from the Helsinki government reports, the two leaders will discuss the situation of the European economy, other current EU issues, security and, above all, Finland and Sweden’s entry into NATO. A path weighed down by the veto of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Turkey, and which seems well channelled for Finland, but uphill for Sweden. Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu reiterated the ‘no’ to NATO enlargement for Sweden, which he said was guilty of “not having shown concrete steps” after signing a protocol with Turkey last June in Madrid. For Finland alone to join NATO, Cavusoglu said it was not up to Turkey, but to the Atlantic Alliance itself.
