The ‘Nordic Film Fest’ returns to Rome from tomorrow until 30 November, as part of the ‘Novembre Nordico‘ cultural programme celebrating Scandinavian creativity across the capital. Screenings will take place at Cinema Caravaggio and the historic Azzurro Scipioni, known for its long tradition of independent and international cinema. This year’s festival, curated by artistic director Antonio Flamini, focuses on high-quality titles that capture the rhythm, humour, and atmosphere of Nordic life. The opening film is ‘The Last Viking’ by Anders Thomas Jensen, a darkly comic tale presented at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. The programme features films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, ranging from dramas and comedies to documentaries and children’s shorts. Highlights include ‘Munch’, exploring key moments in the life of painter Edvard Munch, and ‘Grethe Meyer: The Queen of Danish Design’, a documentary on the influential designer. Norway presents recent short films, while two silent works curated by the Circolo Scandinavo offer rare portraits of early 20th-century Stockholm.

Two Swedish films spotlight the life and legacy of Astrid Lindgren, author of ‘Pippi Longstocking: Becoming Astrid’ and ‘It Could Have Been Us’ (2024). Finland contributes ‘Home and Away’, centred on generational ties and social equality. The festival also includes talks, book presentations, and the photo exhibition ‘A Swedish Love Story’. All screenings are in the original language with Italian subtitles, and admission is free until seats are filled.

Info: Cinema Caravaggio (Via Giovanni Paisiello 24) and Cinema Azzurro Scipioni (Via degli Scipioni 82).
