
Founded in 1968, Tónverkamiðstöð is a center for classical and contemporary music in Iceland. From the beginning, its role has been to record and promote Icelandic compositions, make them available for performance, and support the work of Icelandic composers both at home and abroad. Tónverkamístóður’s online store provides access to
over ten thousand Icelandic compositions. Presentation of Icelandic composers and compositions in the Tónverkamístóður’s collection is an important part of the center’s work. The main goal of the promotional work is to introduce Icelandic compositions to performers, conductors, project selection committees and program directors of concerts, bands and festivals. Tónverkamíðst receives a variety of inquiries, for example regarding selection of works, from both domestic and foreign sources. The center provides advice to composers, for example, regarding notation, marketing, grant applications, etc. and provides information on opportunities and projects for composers abroad and domestically.
