Speaking about the two Nordic countries’ NATO accession process, which Turkey has not yet ratified, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that “the situation with Finland is less problematic than with Sweden“. During a press conference broadcast by state TV Trt, Cavusoglu also said that the two candidacies are not being examined separately and that the burning of the Koran in front of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm led to the cancellation of a summit between Turkish, Swedish and Finnish officials scheduled to take place in Brussels. According to Cavusoglu, Stockholm still “does not take any action” regarding the distancing from terrorism, and the extradition of some militants, which Ankara demands in order to ratify the Scandinavian countries’ NATO accession protocols.
