The Finnish government has announced that it is preparing to send one million euros in humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria. The aid package will be channelled through the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. On Tuesday, a team of Finnish rescue workers and IT professionals departed for the region, as the death toll from the earthquakes keeps climbing. A 7.8 magnitude quake struck near the city of Gaziantep in the early hours of Monday morning, followed by a 7.5-magnitude earthquake that hit at around 1:30pm local time (12:30pm Finnish time). “The scale of human distress is immense in the region, and fear of aftershocks makes it worse. Finland wants to help quickly those affected by the disaster,” so Finland’s Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari (SDP).
