We try to publish here the main information regarding the impact of the current strike on people’s travels. The impact will be greatest in Reykjavík and its surroundings, but less further away from the capital, e.g. the effect is little or no in North Iceland and East Iceland.
Unfortunately, the situation is unclear in many respects but we advise people to contact their accommodation and other travel agents they have booked with.

February 28th – 10:24: The situation is unchanged from yesterday. Strikes continue in the hotels where they are already underway, and the same applies for truck drivers who distribute gasoline and diesel. However, there have not yet been any problems due to lack of fuel for cars. The planned lockout by the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (SA) against Efling trade union has been postponed until late on Monday 6th March and the trade union has not announced plans for further strikes. State Mediator has asked the parties not to speak to the media, so there is little new information to be gained.

Currently, there are strikes in parts of Iceland’s services industry; seemingly, and at least partially, due to the unwillingness of hotel owners to pay hotel cleaners better wages. The strikes will affect some hotels and fuel delivery drivers in the Reykjavík capital area. There are upcoming hotel closures scheduled, and there may be disruptions in supplies to gas stations. The situation is evolving; hopefully, the unions will reach a new collective bargaining agreement, and disruptions to your travel plans will be minimal.
