FLEE - Official Trailer

“Flee” (2021) by Ionas Poher Rasmussen tells the story of Amin Nawabi, a 30-year-old Danish academic of Afghan origin. Through animation, the film follows his life in the present (his relationship with his fiancée, his professional ambitions, the difficulty of having a stable life) and hears through his voice the long unspoken past: his childhood in Afghanistan in 1984, the arrest of his father, the civil war after the fall of the USSR, his flight to Moscow in the early 1990s with his mother, brother and two sisters, a journey of hope to Sweden, deportation, endless waiting and finally his arrival in Denmark with a fabricated family history in order to be accepted as a refugee. “Flee” is the story of an encounter, that between director Jonas Poher Rasmussen and the strange boy who sat alone on the train that took them both to school. The same boy of Afghan origin, called Amin, who over the years found the courage to tell his friend his story.
