The Forest Tower at Camp Adventure in Rønnede is an outstanding experience with a very special and majestic view across South Zealand. The tower is 45 metres tall, and the platform at the top is situated 135 metres above sea level. This makes it the highest accessible point in all of Zealand. When you stand on the platform at the top, you can see 25 km across the South Zealand landscape, and looking to the north on a clear day, you can actually see all the way to the Øresund Bridge, the Turning Torso in Malmö, and parts of the Copenhagen skyline. The trip up the tower itself creates a unique sensation, allowing you to see nature from a completely new perspective. When you follow the tower’s spiral ramp you will see the trees very close up, and you will finish off your experience with the treetops at eye level and the stunning view across Zealand. The walk out to the tower itself is via a 900-metre-long boardwalk in the forest, where you can experience Camp Adventure’s climbing park, the forest and the beautiful scenery in which the tower is situated. Along the way, there are several lookout pointswhere you can take the opportunity to rest and enjoy nature. The tower is a unique attraction in itself and a must-see for architecture buffs. Designed by Effekt Architects, the tower garnered several international awards before it was even opened. The main structure is made of maintenance-free Corten steel and local South Zealand oak from the estate Bregentved Gods and the abbey Gisselfeld Kloster.

THE FOREST TOWER
The 45 meter high Forest Tower in Gisselfeld Kloster’s forest is a unique nature experience, where you see the forest in completely new perspectives.

THE EXPERIENCE
Experience the suction in the stomach. Over the architecture of Skovtårnet, the nature of South Zealand and the magnificent view from the top of the tower high above the crowns of the trees. Because here – in the middle of Gisselfeld’s forests – you get a sensuous experience from the first time, where you see the 45 meter high tower, until you stand on top of it and look out over the South Zealand landscape. The experience starts already at the old watermill, when you first step on the 3,2 kilometer long raised footpath, which meanders through the forest, around the trees and over the streams, until the Forest Tower suddenly appears between the trees. Then the upturn begins, and for every time you have gone round in one of the 12 circles towards the top, you will discover that the nature around you changes along with the architecture. Up, up, up until you reach the center of the tower, where the hourglass structure is laced so tightly together that you can touch three beech trees, which grow in the middle of the tower. Finally, you step out on the viewing platform 140 meters above sea level with a view of forest and fields, and where on a clear day you can see all the way to Copenhagen and Malmö more than 50 kilometers away. The suction in the stomach is not to be mistaken.

ARCHITECTURE
The 45 meter high Forest Tower was designed by EFFEKT with an ambition to create an aesthetically beautiful building and a unique experience with nature in focus. The iconic architecture of the Forest Tower is inextricably linked to the hourglass shape, which is drawn from a cylindrical shape, where the bottom and top are maximized, while the middle is laced into a so-called hyperboloid shape. This narrowing in the middle of the construction is important for the experience in Forest Tower, as you get very close to three beautiful beech trees, which grow in the middle of the structure. The rotation, which is felt in the vertical corten steel tubes, is created by the vertical steel tubes rotating 120 degrees. As you move up through the tower, you also experience that the distance between the ramps changes until you reach the viewing platform 140 meters above sea level, where you have a 360 degree view of the landscape. The main construction is made of maintenance-free corten steel, and the ramp is made of local South Zealand oak from Bregentved Estate and Gisselfeld Monastery. All wood is PEFC certified.

The Forest Tower has won several architecture awards and has been nominated for the EU Architecture Award, the Mies van der Rohe Award, in 2022.
