Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin is forced to step down from her position after having suffered a bittersweet defeat at the latest general elections: despite both herself and her party (Social Democrats) performing better than in 2019, the SDP nevertheless came (narrowly) in third position, after two right wing parties, and these results call for a change of Prime Minister. Sanna Marin is the most popular Finnish PM of the century, was praised for her handling of the pandemic, and also led Finland to join Nato, with overwhelming support. Finland is moving to the right and it is difficult to understand the reasons that lead Marin to such an early exit from her Prime Minister tenure.
