After two draws in the opening two games of the final, Norwegian world #1 Magnus Carlsen defeated Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa in a tiebreak to become Chess World Cup champion. Carlsen won the first of two tiebreak games before drawing the second, this way clinching his first World Cup title.
