After last winter’s storm surges that hit both in October and in December, damaging coastal year-round residences, summer houses, harbors while entire areas were under water, a new calculations from the Coastal Directorate states that the capital area is already in danger today and far worse in the future. The worst-case scenario today would involve water levels that are between 2.9 and 3.9 meters above normal, but since climate change is increasingly taking effect, the maximum water levels just keep getting higher and higher, up to between four and five meters above normal water level by 2125.
