On Friday 11 October, there is an opportunity to experience Copenhagen and Frederiksberg in a different and completely unique way, when the Culture Night transforms the city into a vibrant world of endless and unique experiences. The night of culture is the city’s, and the country’s, largest one-day event, which with one culture pass gives access to more than 230 imaginative and thought-provoking cultural events that you can only experience this once a year. The entire program is now ready, you can dive into the many options right here.
When darkness descends on Copenhagen on 11 October, it is the start of a magical evening, where you are invited to go on an adventure in the city’s various neighborhoods and search for the hidden treasures hidden behind the beautiful illuminated facades. More than 230 organizers, including museums, theatres, churches, castles and ministries, open their doors on Culture Night in Copenhagen and in Frederiksberg to offer unique events that take both children and adults on an educational journey in an entertaining way, and to wonderful buildings and halls not normally open to the public after dark.

“Every year I am impressed by the incredibly creative abilities of our organizers when it comes to creating new, unique experiences for the guests of the Culture Night. Art, history, urban development, science, architecture and much more are conveyed vividly and entertainingly for all ages, and there is plenty of opportunity to throw yourself into natural science experiments, games from when grandma was a child or to try your hand at everything from painting to archeology for fermentation. And that’s exactly what we want with Kulturnatten – to create the city’s biggest cultural event, where everyone thinks it’s fun to be a part of,” says Head of Secretariat for Kulturnatten, Marie Myschetzky.

The royal life
If you’re a bit of a royal, you can get a taste of Copenhagen‘s royal life and history at Kulturnatten and experience some of the city’s beautiful castles up close. The evening offers, for example, an overwhelming royal anointing at Rosenborg Castle, in De Kongelige Staldeyou can see the king’s white horses, or visit the Amalienborg Museum, in the mansion where Christian X lived, or Frederiksberg Castle, and hear about the history of the castles. You can also experience the artwork MADE OF STARDUST in Christiansborg Palace Church- a digital work that can only be experienced on this one evening.
Art and architecture
Many museums and art galleries such as the Statens Museum for Artand Nikolaj Kunsthalare open to the guests of the Night of Culture, and there will be both the opportunity to go behind the scenes, experience new works and to express yourself creatively. Also visit Copenhagen‘s oldest and nicest artist street, Rørholmsgade, with 13 galleries or get an insight into both classic and recent architecture in Copenhagen. For example, stop by the wonderful university library in Fiolstrædefrom 1861 and hear its history, experience the Odd Fellow Palæetfrom 1756 or the newly built headquarters of Danske Bank, which integrates art and historical objects in the most beautiful way.
Culinary Copenhagen
Copenhagen is known for its culinary excellence, and on Culture Night there is also the opportunity to get to know different facets of Nordic cuisine. In the beautiful, hip area called BaneGaardenyou can learn about fermentation and wild herbs and come to a long table dinner, the Hotel and Restaurant Schooloffers street food, beer tasting and cake mania, in Moltke’s Palaceyou can experience delicious tastings from the palace’s own kitchen, and At Copenhagen City Hallyou can of course try the famous City Hall pancakes.
Mostly for children
You don’t have to be afraid to take the family to the Culture Night in Copenhagen, because no one will be bored. For example, who could not imagine a trip to the Zooby night, or to explore the underground like a real archaeologist at the Archaeological Workshop? Plenty of adventures await within the ramparts of Kastellet, where you can, among other things, descend into a bunker from the Second World War, and if you dare, you can also take a trip to prison. Also experience the Folketingfrom the inside when it is open to everyone on Culture Night.
