José González is a Swedish indie folk singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in 1978 in Gothenburg to Argentine parents who fled political unrest in Argentina. His unique musical style, characterized by soft acoustic guitar melodies and introspective vocals, has made him an influential figure in modern folk music. González gained international recognition with his 2003 debut album, ‘Veneer’, which included a popular cover of The Knife’s ‘Heartbeats’, famously featured in a Sony Bravia commercial. The song’s success helped propel him into the spotlight. He continued to refine his minimalist sound with albums like ‘In Our Nature’ (2007), and ‘Vestiges & Claws’ (2015), showcasing his ability to blend delicate guitar work with thoughtful, philosophical lyrics influenced by writers like Richard Dawkins. In addition to his solo work, González is a member of the band ‘Junip’, a collaboration with Elias Araya and Tobias Winterkorn, which explores a more expansive and experimental sound. His music has also been featured in prominent soundtracks, such as in ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’ and ‘Red Dead Redemption’. González’s most recent album, ‘Local Valley’ (2021), is notable for its multilingual approach, including his first song in Spanish, “El Invento”. His commitment to environmentalism and altruism, as well as his understated but deeply resonant music, continues to attract a global audience.
