
Anti-whaling activist Paul Watson has been released from prison in Greenland after five months of detention. His release follows Denmark‘s refusal to extradite him to Japan, where he faced charges related to a 2010 confrontation with a Japanese whaling ship. The Danish Justice Ministry cited inadequate guarantees from Japan regarding the counting of his time served against any potential sentence. Watson, 74, expressed relief at not being sent to Japan and looked forward to reuniting with his sons for Christmas. He founded the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and has been a prominent figure in anti-whaling campaigns.
