On December 25, 2024, the Estlink 2 interconnector, which links Finland and Estonia, experienced an unplanned outage at 12:26 PM local time. The Finnish operator Fingrid reported that at the time of the disruption, electricity was being transmitted from Finland to Estonia at a rate of 658 MW. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo confirmed that the outage would not impact Finland’s power supply and emphasized ongoing investigations into the cause, which could include potential sabotage. Both Fingrid and Estonia’s Elering are conducting inspections to identify the fault.
