In 2025, the ‘Nordlys Festivalen’ (Northern Lights Festival) in Tromsø will host Mimmi Tamba and Marius Neset for the first time, two of the most exciting musicians and composers in Norway. The program is otherwise filled with treats for every taste and age; a wonderful mix of classical, jazz, opera, yoik, contemporary, and much in between. The Northern Lights Festival plays an important role in facilitating the flourishing of culture – with its focus on talent development and collaboration with the music education institutions in the city, such as the Cultural School, Kongsbakken and not least the Music Conservatory. Tromsø is unique in many ways, with qualities that create identity for the local population and excitement for visiting audiences. The rich cultural life is particularly strong, and annually at least one concert or performance is probably arranged per inhabitant in the city. That Tromsø‘s unique, artistic diversity is threatened by global and local challenges: it feels more important than ever to invite to music, unity and joy.
