This autumn, Norway’s most celebrated cross-country skier, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, takes on a new kind of challenge — starring as himself in a major feature-length documentary simply titled Klæbo. Premiering on 14 November 2025, just a week before the season opener in Beitostølen, the film promises to reveal a side of the athlete the public has never seen. Directed by Ola Høsflot Klæbo — Johannes’s younger brother — together with filmmaker Stian Engh, the project captures a full year of triumphs, trials, and transformation. It chronicles the turbulent 2024–2025 season, which saw Klæbo battling illness, injury, and immense pressure, before ultimately achieving an unprecedented sweep of six gold medals at the World Championships in Trondheim.
Behind the Medals
While the public knows the smiling athlete who sprints to victory with the Norwegian flag, Klæbo reveals the less glamorous reality behind elite sport: the exhausting training, the uncertainty of injury, and the psychological strain of living under constant scrutiny. The documentary blends intimate, previously unseen family footage with new cinematography from the Trøndelag region — the heartland of Norwegian skiing and of Klæbo’s own story.
A True Local Production
Produced by Klæbo Media and Norway’s Oscar-winning Antipode Films — the team behind No Other Land — the film maintains a distinctly local feel. The soundtrack, composed by Ola Høsflot Klæbo with musicians from Trøndelag, reinforces that connection to place and identity.
More Than a Sports Film
Beyond medals and record books, Klæbo is a portrait of an athlete at the peak of his powers, questioning what it all means. It’s also the story of a family that has stood together through every stage of a remarkable journey — from local club races in Byåsen to global domination. With themes of perseverance, belonging, and vulnerability, Klæbo looks set to join the canon of great Scandinavian sports documentaries — not just as a chronicle of athletic excellence, but as a meditation on ambition, identity, and what it takes to stay human while chasing history.
