G.A.T. Opens in Stockholm: A Luxurious New York-Style Restaurant and Bar in a Historic City Centre Landmark
Restaurant G.A.T. has just opened in central Stockholm, bringing a high-energy New York–style restaurant and cocktail bar to a historic 19th-century landmark at Gustav Adolfs Torg. The menu draws on French-American bistro classics, while the cocktail bar builds on the expertise behind Tjoget, ranked on the World’s Best 50 Bars list since 2016 — delivering world-class drinks with downtown Manhattan energy. 20-Gruppen, the hospitality group behind acclaimed Stockholm venues such as internationally recognised Tjoget, opens G.A.T., a high-energy New York-style restaurant and cocktail bar. G.A.T. is located at Gustav Adolfs Torg 16, in a late 19th-century building in the heart of Stockholm’s historic city centre.
French-American Cuisine
G.A.T. brings a modern interpretation of the American-French bistro, a style that emerged in New York during the 1980s and 1990s. The menu blends French technique with bold American flavours, offering dishes such as King Crab Legs, New York Strip, Shrimp Cocktail and Toast G.A.T. – a new creation with seared foie gras, beef tenderloin and caviar.
”We’ve always loved the decadent energy of a really good New York-bistro, and we wanted to bring that feeling to Stockholm in a way that feels both luxurious and welcoming,” says Joel Söderbäck, co-founder of 20-Gruppen.
World-Class Cocktails
G.A.T. has two entrances: one leading to the dining room, and the other to an elegant cocktail bar serving world-class drinks, crafted with the same expertise and attention to detail that has earned 20-Gruppen’s restaurant and bar Tjoget a place on the World’s Best 50 Bars list since 2016. The drink menu on G.A.T. focuses on classic cocktails such as the Manhattan, Cosmopolitan, Dry Martini and Midori Sour.
”Nothing beats the classics, which in many ways is the guiding philosophy behind G.A.T. That said, of course we couldn’t help adding a little something extra to the menu – so creating six house cocktails was a must. We are extra proud of the Tequila Daiquiri,” says Andreas Bergman, co-founder of 20-Gruppen.
Exclusive Private Dining
G.A.T. also offers exclusive private dining for secluded gatherings. An intimate upper balcony for up to 10 guests provides a lively view of the kitchen while maintaining privacy. Below, the cellar houses a larger room for 20 guests, featuring direct access to the wine cellar and dedicated service.
A Historic Building Reimagined
G.A.T. is housed in Davidsonska huset, a culturally protected late 19th-century building in central Stockholm. The building is blue-listed, meaning it’s officially recognised for its cultural and architectural significance – and therefore required careful preservation throughout the renovation. To transform the former banking building into a restaurant, 20-Gruppen partnered with architect Andreas Martin-Löf of AML Studios, who crafted an interior that feels timeless and naturally integrated into the building’s original design. The result is an elegant environment that honors 19th-century architecture while introducing contemporary details and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
”The rooms were fantastic from the start. Much of the work has been about highlighting the building’s existing character – working with ’silk gloves’ and details we could not touch,” says Andreas Martin-Löf, founder of AML Studios.
G.A.T. opened on 22 January, 2026 at Gustav Adolfs Torg 16 in Stockholm. The dining room seats 30 guests, and the cocktail bar adds 40 seats. Private dining is available in two different areas – the balcony for up to 10 guests, and the cellar for up to 20 guests. Bookings are made via Gatstockholm.com
