
Maersk is a Danish shipping company that specializes in ocean and inland freight transportation as well as related services including supply chain management and port operations. From 1996 until 2021, Maersk was the world’s largest container shipping line and vessel operator. In 2020, the corporation had over 83,000 people worldwide, with headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, and subsidiaries and offices in 130 countries. The company is held by the Møller family through holding companies, making it a publicly traded family corporation. Maersk Group stated in September 2016 that it would be divided into two divisions: “Transport & logistics” and “Energy”. The corporation made US$39 billion in revenue in 2018 and was ranked 622nd largest public corporation in the world in the 2020 Forbes Global 2000.
