Operated by the Swedish Baseball and Softball Federation, Elitserien is the highest level of professional baseball in Sweden. The Swedish baseball championship was inaugurated in 1963: teams compete in the regular season for a chance to make the playoffs and battle for the Elitserien Cup Championship.
Each summer, the league plays an All-Star Exhibition of top Swedish talent vs. World imports; teams also play many exhibition games and events in order to promote baseball throughout Northern Europe. Each organization has an Elitserien team, as well as minor league and youth league teams. At the end of the regular season, the lowest placing team plays a relegation game against the top team in the Regionalserien.
