MONSTRUM was founded in 2003 by Ole Barslund Nielsen and Christian Jensen, who met each other in the Danish theater world, where they created scenographies. The idea of the company arose when Ole’s five-year-old son kindergarten needed a new playground: “I realized that I could design a playground like a theater set design that gave better play possibilities than the known playground concepts. My colleague, designer Christian Jensen, helped with the work, and it became a really nice playground that the children and the teachers (and the parents) became very happy with. This playground led us to form MONSTRUM together“ so Ole Barslund Nielsen. At MONSTRUM’s workshop in Copenhagen, there are now 50 builders, architects, and designers: they export playgrounds to countries all over the world, proud that the world has seen the quality of their work.

The company’s vision is to help children where it is needed: MONSTRUM sets aside 10% of the company’s annual profit every year for social work, and also actively help locally.
