Kontiolahti is a traditional biathlon venue and it has hosted ‘Biathlon World Cup’ events several times in the past. The World Cup landed the first time in Kontiolahti during the season 1989/1990, and a total of 14 biathlon world cup events were hosted there. Kontiolahti has also been the host of the ‘IBU Biathlon World Championship’s in 1999 and 2015, and of the men’s World Championships relay in 1990. The 2022 competitions in Kontiolahti world cup last almost a week (29.11-04.12.22): eight disciplines include individual competitions, relays, sprints and pursuits for men and women.
