These trade cards are part of ‘The Metropolitan Museum of Art’ collection: the flag of Iceland is a trade card from the set “Flags of All Nations” Series 2 (N10), issued in 1890 in a series of 50 cards to promote Allen & Ginter Brand Cigarettes. The three other trade cards ‘Young Icelandic‘, ‘Lady of Reykjavik‘ and ‘Old pastor‘ come from “Types of Nationalities” series (N240), issued in 1890 to promote Kinney Tobacco Company. Each card is meant to be folded into thirds: unfolded the card displays a figure from a particular nationality. Folded, the same figure is portrayed smoking a Kinney Brothers Cigarette.
