Reykjavík residents opened their eyes to a 10 cm blanket of white outside their window: meteorologists at the Icelandic Met Office consider this much snow in late April a rare occurrence, as it only happened four times in the last 75 years. A southern high-pressure front that in recent weeks brought spring-like weather to Iceland shifted above Greenland last weekend, and was replaced by a small low-pressure system, bringing the uncharacteristic snowfall to the capital area.
