‘Nordic Innovation‘ was founded in Stockholm on 1 July 1973 by the Nordic Ministers of Industry as ‘Nordisk Industrifond’ (Nordic Industry Fond). 10 million NOK was set aside to the first program period targeted projects on technological development within environment, health, transport, materials, and energy. A lot has happened since 1973, and this year ‘Nordic Innovation‘ celebrates 50 years connecting innovative minds from businesses, academics and politics with the power of Nordic collaboration, and now takes a step into the future with ‘Nordic Next’. From the founding until today, the Nordic countries have had their most innovative era with several countries ranking in the absolute top of the most innovative countries in the world. Celebrations include a special anniversary site where one can take a look into the archives and show pieces of work over the past 50 years: did you know that ‘Nordic Innovation’ explored the use of artificial intelligence within cancer treatment already back in 1985? You can read about this and much more in the months to come. All the stakeholders will be invited to the main anniversary event taking place on 2 November: save the date already now! Nordic Next: history is an important aspect for learning, however, as an innovation organization, looking forward is the main component of ‘Nordic Innovation‘ DNA. Anniversary celebrations will be used to learn from the past while at the same time take a step into the future.
