Holger Rune (Denmark) won in a comeback against Casper Ruud (Norway) 6-7 6-4 6-2, to the jubilation of the Roman public who, after booing him at the start of the week, then chose to adopt him. Holger, a Dane with fire inside, was propelled by the fans to his second ‘Masters 1000’ final of the year (after Monte Carlo). In the Scandinavian semi-final derby, the 20-year-old also won for the first time against Ruud out of five matches. The Norwegian, on the eve of the Roland Garros final in 2022, is showing signs of awakening from a rather slow start to the season. Rune awaits the winner between Medvedev and Tsitsipas.
