
Antti Helanterän, Finland’s Ambassador to Moscow, was told this week that nine diplomats from both the Embassy in Moscow and the Consulate General in St. Petersburg will have to leave Russia. Furthermore, the Consulate General in St. Petersburg is to be closed by October 1: this diplomatic mission was the one issuing most Schengen visas to Russian citizens. A statement published by the Russian Foreign Ministry reads that “Finland’s entry into NATO poses a threat to the security of the Russian Federation.”
