Lukko Rauma were founded in 1936, and in 1963 won the Finnish national championship (today ‘Liiga‘) for the first time before winning it again in the 2020/21 season. They also finished runners-up in 1961, 1966 and 1988. In the 2010s they had their best sustained success, making the Liiga semi-finals four times in five years. Despite Rauma not being a big city, the hockey team nonetheless has a loyal following in the ‘Kivikylän Areena’. Lukko have participated in the Champions Hockey League on four previous occasions. In 2014/15, they topped their group and reached the Quarter-Finals, where they lost to eventual champions Lulea Hockey by just one goal on aggregate. The following season, they went all the way to the Semi-Finals where they again fell by just a single goal, this time to Kärpät Oulu. In 2016/17 they made it out of the Group Stage but fell in the very first elimination round. In 2021/22, following a championship season in Liiga, they topped their group and made it to the Quarter-Finals where they were eliminated by Red Bull Munich in OT.
