Contested annually since 1955, the Danish Cup (Danish: ‘Landspokalturneringen’; often referred to as ‘Pokalen’) is the official ‘knockout’ cup competition in Danish football, run by the Danish Football Association. The final traditionally takes place on Kristi Himmelfarts Dag (The Ascension, in May) and it is nearly always played in the Danish national stadium Parken, although the next three years’ cup finals are to be held in Greater Copenhagen: Parken will host the final in 2024 and 2026, while Brøndby Stadion will host the cup final in 2025. The most successful clubs are FC København and AGF Aarhus (9 titles each), whereas FC København and AaB Aalborg have the most finals appearances (13 each). Each club may only have one team in the tournament (their first team): the teams are not seeded, but the lowest placed team from the previous season will always get the home pitch advantage.
