October 31 saw the first easyJet aircraft land at Akureyri Airport: until the end of March 2024, there will be two flights per week (on Tuesdays and Saturdays) between London Gatwick and Akureyri. easyJet is the first foreign airline to operate scheduled international flights to Akureyri, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of tourism in the North of Iceland. According to Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, CEO of Visit North Iceland, the easyJet flights will help to balance the contrast between summer and winter in tourism as most tourists visit in summer.
