Swedish start-up Northvolt has developed a new energy storage technology, a sodium-ion battery, which requires no critical minerals, including lithium, cobalt or nickel. Sodium-ion batteries are a cheaper and safer alternative to the widely used lithium-based batteries, as they work better at both very high and low temperatures.
