New Year’s Eve in Greenland is a unique experience, not just because of the beautiful fireworks lighting up the polar night, but also because you get to celebrate the New Year twice: at 8:00 pm for Denmark and at midnight for Greenland. Greenland’s nature is beautiful all year, not least in the wintertime when it is covered by a blanket of snow and ice, which creates a myriad of opportunities under the northern lights. Get a much-needed respite from your hectic everyday life by taking a day of indulgence, complete with a hot stone massage and luxury facial. Later take on your favorite wool sweater and grab a warm Caramel Confuso from a local cafe to catch the afternoon sunset in warmth. To finish the day right, book a candlelit dinner paired with a nice red wine overlooking the city center to do justice to a day such as this. On New Year’s Eve in Nuuk, get ready for fireworks all evening long: the show starts at 8 in the evening to celebrate midnight in Denmark, and then it continues at midnight to ring in our own new year. And it is not uncommon to get a little mini show or two in between.
