Released on 14 June 1997 by Smekkleysa Records, Sigur Rós’s debut album, Von (meaning “Hope” in Icelandic), introduced their unique, atmospheric style, combining ambient soundscapes with haunting vocals. Though experimental (production in Reykjavík lasted over two years) and not widely recognized outside Iceland, it set the foundation for the band’s signature sound. This album is dark, ethereal, and less accessible than later works but remains a powerful introduction to their style.
