Demand for explosives in Europe is growing, and Finland is bidding to become a major producer and exporter by focusing on a new factory for TNT, an explosive used mainly in artillery and mortar ammunition. Last week, Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen raised the curtain on a 200 million euro project: the plant (the second in the EU) will be built in Pori, a city on the country’s west coast, by Finnish explosives manufacturer Oy Forcit Ab. The new plant will address the European shortage of explosives, demand for which has increased significantly due to the war in Ukraine, create new jobs and enable Finland to continue to support Ukraine in the long term.
