Finland has rejected a request from the United States to export eggs due to regulatory barriers and limited supply. The US is currently dealing with an egg shortage caused by bird flu outbreaks. The Finnish Poultry Association stated that there are no market access agreements in place with US authorities, and setting up such an arrangement would require extensive negotiations and inspections. Even if exports were possible, Finland‘s production capacity, with approximately four million laying hens, would not significantly alleviate the American shortage. While the US Department of Agriculture has contacted other European countries, they face similar regulatory hurdles. The Finnish Poultry Association emphasized the need for ongoing preventive measures against bird flu.
