Denmark will take over the rotating presidency of the EU Council today. Taking over from Warsaw, Copenhagen will oversee EU legislative files and negotiations until January 2026, when it will hand over to Cyprus. In the meantime, Denmark promises to maintain continuity with the Polish presidency under the motto ‘A strong Europe in a changing world’, and is preparing to initiate discussions on the common budget. The Copenhagen presidency will focus on responding to current geopolitical challenges. Above all, it will address the ongoing conflicts and the need for Europe to strengthen its defence in order to prevent further conflicts, an area in which Denmark enjoys broad European consensus.
