
Starting next Monday, Finland’s new military recruits will begin service under strict health protocols to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including adenovirus, which recently affected several garrisons. According to Yle, recruits will wear masks, follow enhanced hygiene rules, and remain isolated in separate training groups for the first three weeks. No contact between groups will be allowed, and training will occur with physical distancing. The Finnish Defence Forces introduced these measures after a serious adenovirus outbreak last autumn strained internal health services. Family visits during the initial period have been canceled, though recruits will still be able to communicate with loved ones. The Conscripts’ Union supports the measures, acknowledging the challenge of limiting social interaction while trying to build team spirit.
