According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, several Nordic countries rank among Europe’s top contributors to Ukraine in terms of aid as a share of GDP. Denmark tops the EU list, allocating support worth 3.3% of its GDP to Kyiv. Estonia follows closely at 3.2%, with Finland at 1.8%. Norway (1.5B), Sweden and the other Baltic and Nordic states also feature prominently among the most generous nations. The figures highlight a broader trend: Europe, as a whole, has now overtaken the United States in both military and overall aid to Ukraine. Since 2022, EU countries and individual European states have provided €82 billion in military assistance, compared to $65 billion from the U.S. In humanitarian and financial support, Europe has contributed €167.4 billion, far outpacing Washington’s $114.6 billion. Analysts note that geography and security concerns play a key role in the Nordics’ strong commitment, as several of these nations share borders or close proximity to Russia.
