
Starting in autumn, Viking Line, Northern Europe’s leading ferry company, will offer completely fossil-fuel-free journeys between Finland and Sweden, through the extensive use of liquid biogas (bioLNG). The Finnish company plans to increase its use of renewable fuel sixfold by 2024 in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 17,000 tonnes per year. The ro-ro vessels Viking Glory and Viking Grace, which can already burn LNG, will use a blend in which biogas will be the main component. Passengers, corporate groups and cargo customers wishing to reduce the environmental footprint of their voyage to zero will also have a fossil-free option available on board
