
Greenland’s surface gained 8 Gigatons of mass on Friday, Sept 23 and an unprecedented (for the time of year, but almost for any time of the year) 10 Gigatons on Saturday, Sept 24. Last season (Sept 1, 2021 to Aug 31, 2022) the Greenland ice sheet achieved a Surface Mass Balance of approximately 471Gt, ranking it as the 10th highest SMB year in data since 1981.
