Equinor platform in the North Sea

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere stated that Norway will deploy its military forces (Navy and Police) in order to protect its oil and gas installations against possible sabotage. The concern arose after two Russian pipelines to Europe (Nord Stream 1 and 2) have been attacked and are now leaking gas into the Baltic Sea. Norway is now Europe’s largest gas supplier, and also a leading global oil supplier: the Scandinavian nation has over 90 offshore oil and gas fields connected to a network of gas pipelines of approximately 9.000km.
