
The ‘Øvre Årdal to Valdres’ road in Norway began construction in 1910 and opened in 1934: it became a tourist destination through the Norwegian backcountry. Featuring 42 switchbacks to climb over Heirsnosi to its highest point (1,117m. above sea level), it has been closed to vehicular traffic for decades.
