Air China’s inaugural Beijing–Keflavík service landed on 26 October, establishing Iceland’s first scheduled air connection with mainland China and creating a new year-round route for tourism, business and travel in both directions.

A new aviation link for Iceland
Air China’s first service from Beijing arrived at Keflavík International Airport on Monday 26 October, marking a significant expansion of Iceland‘s international air connectivity. The Beijing–Copenhagen–Keflavík route is the first scheduled passenger connection between Iceland and mainland China, opening a commercial bridge to one of the world’s largest aviation markets. Although the flight makes a scheduled stop in Copenhagen rather than operating nonstop, passengers remain on the same service between Beijing Capital Airport and Keflavík, giving Chinese visitors a new route towards Reykjavík and the country beyond.
Three flights a week, all year
The year-round service operates on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Air China flight CA807 departs Beijing for Copenhagen before continuing to Keflavík, while CA808 makes the return journey via the Danish capital. The route is operated with an Airbus A330-300 and arrives at Keflavík at 11:15 local time before departing again for Copenhagen at 13:45. Its regular timetable offers a reliable new gateway for travellers from China and other Asian markets planning journeys through Iceland, from the volcanic landscapes of the Golden Circle, to winter excursions in search of the Northern Lights, glacier adventures and Icelandic horse riding.
A practical arrival tool for Chinese visitors
For Chinese travellers arriving through Keflavík, mobile data will be an immediate practical consideration: airport transfers, maps, online bookings, translation tools and weather updates are particularly useful during an independent trip around Iceland. The Holafly Scandinavia eSIM offers a simple option for staying connected from arrival, without needing to search for a local physical SIM card after landing. Visitors should nevertheless confirm that their handset is eSIM-compatible and select the plan that best matches the length and data needs of their Icelandic itinerary.
Tourism, business and two-way travel
Keflavík Airport has described the connection as an important milestone for tourism, business and Iceland’s wider international network. The new service gives Icelandic tourism businesses greater visibility in a major long-haul source market, while also making travel to China more convenient for Icelandic companies, institutions and residents. China’s unilateral visa-exemption policy currently allows holders of ordinary Icelandic passports to enter for business, tourism, family visits, exchanges or transit for stays of up to 30 days without a visa, subject to its conditions and validity period.
A route that should be read accurately
The launch is an important first, but it does not create a nonstop Beijing–Iceland flight: Copenhagen remains a scheduled stop in both directions, and travellers should check the latest itinerary, timings and entry requirements before booking. Even so, Air China’s arrival establishes a new permanent connection between Iceland and mainland China, widening the country’s reach beyond its established European and North American aviation networks and providing a promising new channel for visitors drawn to the country’s dramatic landscapes, winter experiences and distinctive culture.
