Erdogan changes his mind and announces the resumption of negotiations with Sweden and Finland for NATO membership on 9 March. However, Turkey reiterated that it may separate the consideration of Sweden‘s (accused of indirectly supporting Kurdish PKK terrorists) and Finland’s applications to join Nato. “Our president (Recep Tayyip Erdogan) has made it clear that we can separate Sweden and Finland’s accession process, our approach to Finland is more positive,” said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. Ankara’s diplomatic chief recalled that Erdogan had also clarified these points with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
