Norway has no physical barrier along its 198 km land border with Russia, unlike Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland: in July, one more person walked across the northernmost frontier, from Norway into Russia, and did not return. The Russian FSB ‘Border Guards Service’ is unwilling to provide further details, whereas on August 16, the Police in Finnmark sent the following press statement (excerpt):

The police can confirm that a person crossed the border illegally at the end of July from Norway to Russia. Illegal border crossings sometimes happen, but since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, we have had three cases with people crossing over to the Russian side illegally without being returned
