The Faroe Islands are set to become even more accessible to international travellers after Icelandair announced that its Reykjavík–Vágar route will operate throughout the entire year, extending a service that had previously been limited to the summer season. The Icelandic carrier first launched scheduled flights to the Faroe Islands in May 2024, offering convenient connections between Keflavík International Airport and Vágar Airport. The route quickly proved successful, with Icelandair citing strong passenger demand since its inaugural flight. Beginning with the 2026 winter schedule, Icelandair will continue flying between Iceland and the Faroe Islands year-round. Winter operations are expected to run three times per week using Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, while the summer schedule will continue to offer up to six weekly departures. The move represents an important milestone for Faroese tourism. Until now, many international visitors viewed the archipelago primarily as a seasonal destination, but year-round air connectivity opens new opportunities for winter tourism, cultural experiences, birdwatching, hiking, gastronomy, and the islands’ increasingly popular “slow travel” appeal.
