After three formative years devoted to continental Denmark, All Things Nordic is moving its editorial focus north-west: Tórshavn and the Faroe Islands will become the home of the ATN Nordic Editorial Residency for 2027.
Closing the Jutland chapter
At the end of 2026, All Things Nordic will conclude a three-year editorial residency devoted to Jutland, the great continental peninsula at the heart of Denmark. It was never conceived as a conventional office in a single city, but as a distributed editorial presence shaped by repeated journeys, research and encounters across the region. From Skagen in the far north to Aalborg, Aarhus, Ebeltoft and Ribe, Jutland became both a subject of study and a vantage point from which to explore Danish history, landscape, culture and everyday life beyond Copenhagen.
What the Jutland residency produced
The most substantial result of this period is Jutland – The Soul of Continental Denmark, an ATN book dedicated to the peninsula’s landscapes, towns, cultural memory and distinctive place within Denmark. The residency also inspired the development of the Jutland Hub, alongside articles, itineraries, photography and research covering subjects ranging from Viking heritage and coastal communities to architecture, local traditions and the relationship between Denmark’s historic towns and contemporary life. More importantly, it helped establish one of ATN’s central editorial principles: the Nordic countries cannot be understood solely through their capitals. The years from 2024 to 2026 contain everything such a residency should represent: sustained attention to a particular Nordic region, first-hand travel, original editorial production and a body of work designed to remain useful after the residency itself has ended. Jutland can therefore be considered the formative first chapter of the project — the experience from which the idea of a rotating ATN editorial base emerged.
Tórshavn becomes the 2027 editorial residence
For 2027, the ATN Nordic Editorial Residency will move to Tórshavn, capital of the Faroe Islands. The new chapter will begin with an editorial journey to the archipelago in March, providing the foundation for a year of reporting, photography and cultural research. From Tórshavn, ATN will explore not only the Faroese capital but also the wider network of islands, villages and communities that have created one of the most distinctive societies in the Nordic world.
An archipelago of stories
The Faroe Islands offer an unusually rich concentration of editorial subjects: language and literature, music, architecture, fishing and aquaculture, food, political autonomy, infrastructure, environmental change, tourism and the challenges facing small island communities. ATN will pay particular attention to life beyond the summer season, examining the Faroe Islands as a living society rather than simply as a spectacular destination. The residency is expected to generate a substantial collection of articles and original images, as well as material for future guides, interviews and book projects.
A moving home for a Nordic publication
The ATN Nordic Editorial Residency is not a headquarters or a permanent foreign branch. It is a rotating editorial base that allows All Things Nordic to establish a deeper relationship with one Nordic place for a defined period. Each residency is connected to actual travel, local reporting, cultural research and the production of a lasting body of work. Some chapters may extend across several years; others, such as Tórshavn, may take the form of an intensive one-year residency centred on a particularly concentrated editorial project.
From continental Denmark to the North Atlantic
Moving from Jutland to Tórshavn means travelling from the fields, fjords and historic towns of continental Denmark to a North Atlantic archipelago shaped by mountains, weather and the sea. Yet the two residencies are connected by the same purpose: to look beyond familiar Nordic narratives and devote time to places that deserve sustained attention. Jutland gave the project its foundations; the Faroe Islands will allow it to become an established part of ATN’s identity.
The next chapter
The Tórshavn residency will run throughout 2027, while the work created during the Jutland years will remain permanently available through ATN’s articles, books and dedicated collections. At the end of the Faroese year, the Nordic Editorial Residency will move again, beginning a new geographical and editorial cycle. Its future destinations will be selected according to the stories, opportunities and connections that emerge along the way. All Things Nordic will remain what it has always aspired to be: a publication about the North that is willing to move through the North.
